Seven devotees died in the second phase of Biswa Ijtema which began on Friday.

Among them, one was killed in a road accident on the way to the Ijtema venue. Six other devotes died of old age complications, said local sources.

Four of the deceased were identified as, Md Abul Kalam, 65, hailing from Sherpur Sadar upazila, Md Helim Miah, 65, hailing from Netrakona, Md Jahir Uddin, 65, hailing from Dinajpur, Nabir Uddin, 65, hailing from Jamalpur, and Abul Kashem, 65.

The spell of the three-day Biswa Ijtema began through Aam Bayan on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi under the Gazipur district on Friday.

Hundreds of Muslims devoted from home and abroad offered Jummah prayers on the bank of the Turag River on Friday, the first day of the second spell of Bishwa Ijtema.

Apart from those who had gathered from all around the country at the Ijtema venue, many local Muslims—from Gazipur and nearby areas—thronged the Ijtema ground to offer Jummah prayers.

Maulana Saad Kandhalvi's eldest son, Yusuf bin Saad Kandhalvi, delivered the Jummah sermon at 1:35 pm and led the prayer at 1:57 pm.

Some attendees also took part in the prayers from the roofs of various high-rise buildings in Tongi. Many other devotees offered prayers on the nearby roads.

More than 6,000 foreigners from around 56 countries joined the Bishwa Ijtema.

Shaikh Mofle gave a sermon after Jummah, Maulana Musharraf after Asr and India's Maulana Yusuf bin Saad after Maghrib.
