26,700 litres of edible oil seized from Bagmara

Police at Taherpur Bazar under Bagmara upazila have recovered 26,724 litres of edible oil from two godowns (warehouses) on Monday night and arrested the owner or trader of the oil Shahidul Islam Swapon(40) son of Ismail Saji of village Chokhali. Of the recovered edible oil, 19,176 litres is Soybean oil and the rest 7,548 litres is Mustard oil. Elder brother of Swapon who is also a co-owner of the godown managed to escape during the police raid. 

Spokesperson of Rajshahi district police and Additional Superintendent of Police Iftekhayer Alam informed, local traders at Tahirpur use a government rented godown as a storehouse for goods. Acting on a tip off, police conducted a drive and recovered 100 barrels of edible oil from there. 

Of those 100 drums of edible oil, 63 drums contain Soybean oil (204 litres in each drum) totalling 12,152 litres and the rest 37 drums contain Mustard oil totalling 7,548 litres. He further said, police also recovered 31 drums of Soybean oil (6,324 litres) from another godown nearby belonged to Shafiqul Islam, elder brother of Swapon. Both the godowns have been sealed and legal action is underway against the hoarders of the edible oil. 

Additional Superintendent of Police Sanaton Chakravarty headed the drive. Among others, Addn Super of police Iftekhayer Alam, Puthia Circle Astt Police Super Alok Biswas, Bagmara PS Officer in charge Mostaque Ahmed and ASI Didarul Alam of Taherpur participated in the drive.
