A total of 24 universities in the country may join the uniform entrance test for university admission in the 2023-2024 session. A total of 22 universities joined the GST admission test in the 2022-2023 academic session.

However, decisions regarding the GST admission test for the 2023-2024 academic session may be taken after the 12th National Parliament elections.

Two new universities may join the existing 22 universities, according to the GST admission test organising committee. The Technical Committee Convener of GST admission test 2022-23 and Vice-Chancellor of Chandpur Science and Technology University Dr. Nasim Akhtar said, “There have been no discussions among vice-chancellors regarding the admission tests. It is not expected to happen before the elections.”

UGC Chairman (additional responsibility) Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir informed about the possibility of conducting GST admission tests for the 2023-24 academic year as organizing Single university admission test fails.

Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University Professor Dr. Kazi Saifuddin expressed concern about the sluggish process of GST admission tests.

He said, “It takes a significant amount of time from admitting students to starting classes. While it benefits students on one side, it causes even greater damage on the other. The real value of this system is also questioned if major universities do not participate. The Ministry should promptly address this issue.”

Secretary of the University Grants Commission Dr. Ferdous Jaman said, “We are making earnest efforts for the Single admission test. We have sent a proposal for an ordinance to the concerned Ministry. If it is approved, we can proceed towards the remaining process for individual admission tests. Otherwise, the admission tests will continue in the cluster method.”
