22, 090 applications submitted since CHT Land Commission’s inception

Proceedings to settle land dispute in hills begin Dec 23

Justice Anwar-ul Haque, Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission (CHTLDRC), on Wednesday said that proceedings of the submitted applications over land dispute would begin from December 23.

He was briefing the local journalists after 6th meeting held at Rangamati Circuit House.

Since the inception of CHTLDRC in 1999, a total of 22, 090 applications have been submitted to the office of land commission from three hill districts---Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari.

Justice Anwar-ul Haque informed that a branch office for the commission would be set up at the newly constructed office building of Rangamati Hill District Council. The CHTLDRC chairman will inaugurates the office formally today (Thursday).

Replying to a question of journalists, Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma said that land dispute in hills is most complex issue in which many other issues are related. All concerned including government, political parties, administration, law enforcing agencies, government officials must work together in this regard, he added.

Bodhipriya Larma, who is widely known as Santu Larma, also the president of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCCJSS), also said permanently solving the long standing political problem in CHT is never possible without full scale execution of the Chittagong Hill Tracts accord.

Though twenty two years have elapsed after signing of the treaty, the fundamental clauses of the deal were remained un-implemented, and the most vital subject of the treaty---‘Management of Land’ was not hand over to the concerned hill district councils so far, lamenting former guerrilla leader, a member of land commission.

Replying a query, another member of the commission and chief of Chakma Circle Raja Barrister Devashis Roy said that bringing amicable solution about the conflicting four regional political organistations in hills is a silly matter for the government as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had done a great job by signing the peace accord.

Chaired by Justice Anwar-ul Haque, chairman of Rangamati Hill Brishaketu Chakma and secretary of land commission Ali Monsur also attended the meeting.

Anwar-ul Haque further informed the pressmen that receiving of applications from the affected people is continued and it has no time limitation. Any affected person can submit application to the commission.

Raja further said that during proceedings provisions of the commission’s act may not satisfied to all. So far no one act had been fulfilled the demand of the people in the country. There is act there is a little discontent. However, we will do our job by maintaining complete neutrality and we will take decision as early as possible in every case in delivering verdict for the interest of resolving dispute, said Devashis.
