200 shops gutted by fire in Rupganj

At least two hundred shops were burnt to ashes in a fire of Gauchhia market in Rupganj upazila on Sunday.

Shop owners sources claimed that the fire originated at 3 am of the night and was brought under control almost after three hours.On information, 10 units of firefighters rushed to the spot and battled for three hours to bring the fire under control. Fire service and civil defence sources could not confirm the reason behind this fire.

No casualty report is yet to be found from fire incident of Gauchhia market. The gutted market is widely known as the kitchen (kachabazar) market but there are all categories of shops including chemical and pharmacies. Most of the shop owners demanded that they had a huge stock of goods on the eve of Eid-ul-fitr market. Deputy Director of Narayanganj fire service and civil defence Fokruddin said that the fire was brought under control after three hours of fighting.
