200 freedom fighters get reception marking Mujib Barsho

On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence, 200 heroic freedom fighters have been given a reception in Gopalganj on the initiative of Abahani Sports Club.

The honorary awards and gifts were given to the best sons of the nation at a function organized by Gopalganj Abahani Sports Club at the local Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Memorial Auditorium at 11am on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gopalganj Shahida Sultana was present as the chief guest at the function presided by Gopalganj District Abahani Sports Club Mahabub Ali Khan.

Gopalganj District Awami League President and District Parishad Chairman Freedom Fighter Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, District Superintendent (SP) of Police Ayesha Siddiqa, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Freedom Fighter Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bachchu, Municipal Mayor Kazi Liaqat Ali, former District Muktijoddha Command Commander Badruddoza Badar, Freedom Fighter Sikder Nur Mohammad Dulu and others spoke at the time as special guests.

Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rashedur Rahman, District Public Works Department Executive Engineer Amit Kumar Biswas, District Public Health Engineering Department Executive Engineer Deepak Chandra Talukder, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Khairul Alam and media personnel were also present there.

Later, prayers were offered asking peace for the souls of the martyrs of the liberation war of '71 and August 15 carnage. After that, the chief guest and others handed over packets of gift to each of the 200 heroic freedom fighters invited by the district Abahani Sports Club. Each of the gift packets contained Bangabandhu's unfinished autobiography, a sari and lungi, a face mask, hand sanitizer, soap, lunch and five hundred taka in cash.
