More than 20,000 taxpayers filed their tax returns online in the first 13 days after introducing the e-return filing system for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
The system was introduced on September 9 aimed at simplifying the return submission process and ensuring compliance.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) in a press release on Sunday said that as taxpayers have embraced the user-friendly system, they saw a surge in online tax filing. The e-return filing system can be accessed through NBR’s website, allowing individual taxpayers to easily prepare and submit their returns.
The NBR has also urged other taxpayers to submit their returns timely through the portal to avoid last-minute rush.
With an upgraded e-return system, taxpayers can create their own returns, submit them online, or print a copy for offline submission.
The system also offers options for tax payments through online banking, credit/debit cards, or mobile financial services such as Nagad, bKash, and Rocket.
Taxpayers can instantly receive proof of submission, obtain income tax certificates, Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificates, and access previous years’ return copies for download or print.
To register in the system, a taxpayer must provide their TIN and a biometrically verified mobile number registered in their names.
Since the introduction of the e-system in 2021, the number of online filers has steadily increased. In the fiscal year 2021-2022, 61,491 taxpayers filed returns online, followed by 244,481 in the fiscal year 2022-2023, and 526,487 in the fiscal year 2023-2024.
