2 youths jailed for harassing madrasa student

A mobile court jailed two youths for harassing a female madrasa student and posting offensive status on Facebook at Hatiya of Noakhali on Saturday noon. 

Executive Magistrate and Hatia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Imran Hossain gave the sentenced Mohammad Elias, 27, to one year and Altaf Hossain, 26, to six months imprisonment.

Md. Elias is the son of Jaber Ali of Dhanumia Hat area of Charking union and Md. Altaf is the son of Abdur Rahman of North Bejugalia village of Hatia municipality.

According to the mobile court, Elias and Altaf often harassed the 18-year-old student of Charking Union on the way to and from the madrasa and posted offensive status on Facebook in the girl's name. The victim and her family complained to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in this regard.

Locals detained the two accused at Hatia Bazar in the upazila and informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, who went there and arrested them. When the two men were produced in a mobile court, they both pleaded guilty.

Officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station Abul Khair said the convicted accused are currently in custody of Hatia Police Station. They will be sent to Noakhali District Jail through the Judicial Court later.
