2 workers die in N’ganj dockyard

A worker died and another went missing in a floating dock accident at a dockyard in Narayanganj's Bibijora area on Thursday. The victims are Yaa Rasul and Rasel. Both hailed from Jhauchar area of Sonargaon upazila. They had been working at the dockyard for the past few years.

Four workers were also injured during the incident. The owner of the dockyard Abul Kalam has been absconding since the incident. Local people said, a ship was being floated on the river experimentally on Thursday evening. At that time the ship got stuck halfway in the sand. Then, two workers were crushed under the ship.

Meanwhile, two units of fire service and their divers went to the spot. The body of a worker was found at around 12 am. A search operation is underway to find out the missing worker. Sub assistant director of Narayanganj district Fire service and civil defense Abdullah al Arefin said, the body of a missing man is stuck in the riverbed.

 An attempt is being made to lift the body. Body of the other worker might also be stuck in the sand. Local people claimed that this dockyard (Sneha dockyard) is being operated without authorization. Some officials including Bandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shukla Sarkar and Officer-In Charge of Bandar Police Station visited the spot.
