2 siblings killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two suspected murder accused were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Hinla area under Teknafupazilain Cox’s Bazar on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 28, and Abdus Salam, 26 sons of Mahmudur Rahman of Hinla PaschimShikdar para area of the upazila. They were wanted in several cases including that of murder.

Pradip Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police detained the two criminals on Thursday. Later, a team of police along with the criminals conducted a drive in Hinla Girls’ High School around 1 am to recover arms.

As soon as they appeared in the hill area, the associates of the criminals opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back which triggered the skirmish.

At one stage, the two siblings were caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries. Later, they were taken to local hospital where duty doctors declared them as dead.

Police recovered two firearms, seven cartridges, 12 rounds of bullets and other ammunitions from the spot.

Mentionable, the two brothers were accused in a case over the murder of Ismail, 25 a resident of West Pankhali, who was killed on June 21. Besides, they were accused in Ibrahim’s murder case.
