2 Rohingyas detained at passport office in Manikganj

Two Rohingyas including a woman were detained while trying to make fake Bangladeshi passport from Manikganj Regional passport office in on Sunday noon.

The Rohingya’s woman was identified as Humaira, (18) and her so-called nephew Abu Taher (22) from Goailmara village of Chakaria police station in Cox's Bazar. Abu Taher is son of Elias, who also a Rohingya.

Confirming the matter Assistant Director Nahid Newyaz of Manikganj Regional passport office said the Rohingya woman plot to illegally acquire a Bangladeshi passport was foiled after her fingerprint scans revealed her identity.

Assistant Director Nahid Newaz said, the woman Humaira, the woman came to apply for the passport along with the birth certificate and necessary documents, introduced herself as Tasmin Begum, daughter of Khalilur Rahman and Rashida Khatun, a permanent resident of the Char Chandhor village of Chandhor union of the Singair upazila in Manikganj district. After submitted the documents while the woman went to give her fingerprint, it was detected that she was a Rohingya. Her real name is Humaira. He lives in Ukhia Rohingya camp.

‘The women’s fingerprints matched in the Rohingya database. According to the Rohingya database, Rohingya ID – 15520171224115459 of the Teknaf Rohingya camp,’ he said.

‘Officials challenged him and found that the documents were fake. The Rohingya women submitted a nationality certificate signed by Chandhor Union Parishad chairman Shawkot Hossain Badol of Singair upazila in Manikganj and a birth certificate signed by Sonatani Union Parishad chairman Lutfor Rahman of Shajadpur upazila in Sirajganj district mentioning her village home Char Chandhor village of Chandhor union of the Singair upazila and a copy of utility bill,’ he said.

The detainees said that they came to get the passports through a broker with a contract of one lakh taka. 60 thousand has already been paid. The police said that after investigating the matter, the broker gang will also be brought under the law.

When contacted Shaukat Hossain Badal, chairman of Chandahar Union Parishad in  Singair , he said, I have heard the matter. 

The signature on the identity card is not mine. The gang may have done this crime by forging signatures. He also said that he will make a general diary in this regard at the police station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manikganj Sadar Police Station Abdur Rauf Sarkar said that a Rohingya woman and youth have been handed over to the police from the regional passport office. Legal action is being taken against them. Besides, investigating the incident, if anyone

else is involved in it, including the broker circle, they will also be brought under the law.
