2 ‘Rohingya drug traders’ killed in gunfight with BGB

Two suspected Rohingya drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Ghumdhum border area under Naikhyangchhari upazila in Bandarban early on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Jubayer, 28, son of Forkan Ahmmed of Kutupalong Lambashia Rohingya camp-1, Block-b/3, and Dil Moham­mad, 25, son of Amir Hamja of Block-c of Kutupalong Rohingya camp-1. 

Besides, one lakh Yaba pills and several arms were recovered from the spot, said BGB-34 Battalion Assistant Commanding Officer Md Year Hossain.

He said that on secret information that a consignment of Yaba was coming from Myanmar through the border, the BGB team increased patrol in the bordering area.  When a gang of drug traders numbering 5-6 were entering Bangladesh border, the BGB team challenged them. Sensing the danger, the drug traders opened fire on BGB men, forcing them to fire back, triggering the skirmish, he said. 

After the gunfight, two bodies were recovered from the spot. Two BGB  men were also injured, said the official.
