Two robbers were killed in an encounter with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) along Chandpai range of the Sundarbans in Bagerhat early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Khaleque, chief of a robber gang, and his second-in-command Bellal.
The bandit gang opened fire on a patrol team of the elite force at Jongra Khal area at early hours prompting them to fire back, said RAB-8 deputy commander Mej Khan Sajibul Islam.
Later, the elite force members found bullet-hit Khaleque and Bellal on the spot and rushed to Dacope Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
Arms and bullets were recovered from the scene.
