2 receive bullet injures at TCB onion outlet

Two persons including a woman sustained bullet injuries when police opened fire 'mistakenly' on a group of scuffling mob who thronged near a truck of TCB selling 'onion' at Taka 45 per kilogramme in Sylhet on Monday noon.

Injured pedestrian Chandrakanta Singh were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital. However, the identity of the injured woman could not be confirmed.

Rita Akhter, Inspector of Kotowali Model thana informed, onion was being sold in front of Kabi Nazrul Islam auditorium at Rikabi Bazaar from 10:00 am Monday through TCB outlet (truck). Several hundred people thronged at the spot to procure onion. On duty police at the spot were allowing to enter five customers of onion inside the auditorium at a time when at around 1:00 pm, customers from behind start scuffling when police tried to control them. At the time of scuffling, bullets were fired from a shotgun of police inattentively. At least two persons including a women were injured in bullets.

It is learnt, on Friday last RAB recovered a truck-load of onion which entered into the country illegally through Tamabil borde. RAB seized the truck with the onion and arrested two smugglers in this connection.

From Monday morning, onion is being sold through three TCB outlets of the city when about a kilometre-long queue was observed behind each outlet to procure onion.
