2 killed in Kurigram road accidnet

Two people were killed and three others critically injured in a road accident involving a drum truck and an auto-rickshaw in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram on Sunday.

The accident occurred at Ghuntighar on the Bhurungamari-Sonahat land port road. The dead have been identified as Banu Mia, 30, an auto-rickshaw driver from Paikarchhara union of Bhurungamari, and Anika, 12, a resident of Rayganj union in Nageshwari upazila. According to reports, the auto-rickshaw was returning to Bhurungamari from Sonahat with passengers. On the way, it was hit head-on by a drum truck coming from the opposite direction. The collision overturned the auto-rickshaw, killing Anika on the spot. Driver Banu Mia and two other passengers were seriously injured and taken to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex where Banu Mia died while undergoing treatment. The injured have been identified as Abubakar Siddique, 38, his wife Morsheda Begum, 35), and their daughter Fatema, 9, all from Ratanpur area under Rayganj union of Nageshwari.

 They were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Helal Mahmud confirmed the news and said, “One person died on the spot and the auto-rickshaw driver died in hospital. The truck responsible for the accident has been seized and a case is under process.”
