Two people were hacked to death by miscreants at Majhikanda area under Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka district early on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Zahid, 40 and his friend Kamal, 50, of the area.
Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station, confirmed the matter.
The OC said that a group of muggers intercepted a motorbike carrying Zahid and Kamal after placing banana tree on the road at about 11:30 pm on Thursday.
Later, the muggers snatched their valuables and stabbed them with sharp weapons, leaving them critically injured.
The injured were taken to the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared Kalam dead in the early hours on Friday.
On the other hand, Zahid was referred to Mitford Hospital. He died on way to the hospital at about 3:00 am.
A case was filed with Nawabganj Police Station in this connection, said the OC.
