Two people, including a child, were killed when a trawler sank in the Kalni river at Dirai upazila in Sunamganj on Saturday.
Witnesses said that the passenger trawler with 10 passengers was going to Dhalbazar from Dirai. The trawler went in front of the house of Baul Shah Abdul Karim in Ujandhal village and sank after being hit by a storm.
Eight of the ten passengers and two drivers of the trawler swam to shore, but the other two passengers drowned.
The bodies were recovered through the efforts of local people. However, the identities of the deceased have not been found yet.
Dirai Police Station OC KM Nazrul Islam said the trawler sank during a storm. The identities of the deceased have not yet been found. Policemen have been deployed to the spot.
