In last one week, there have been several attacks, clashes and vandalism of business establishments between two parties over occupying land in the market adjacent to Bikenagar Bangabandhu College in Shariatpur's Jajira Upazila.
Journalists Khorshed Alam Babul and Rajib Hossain Rajan went there to collect the news of attacks and vandalism on Monday when, Ershad Madbar, president of the local Bikenagar Union Swechchhasebak League, along with others attacked and chased them. At that time, the journalists were locked inside a shop for two hours.
Upon receiving the news, a team of Jajira Police Station rushed to the spot, rescued the journalists and brought the situation under control. A case is being filed with Jajira police station in this regard.
Leaders of various organizations of journalists in the district including Shariatpur Press Club, Shariatpur Electronic Media Journalists Association, Shariatpur Online Journalists Association strongly condemned and protested against this incident demanding exemplary punishment for those involved.
