A court in Bandarban sent to youth to jail on Friday on charge of raping an indigenous teenage girl in Naikhongcchari upazila on October 17.
The accused were identified as Md Selim, 23, son of Nur Mohammad, resident of Joutho Khamar Para area in Baishari union of Nakhoncchari upazila and Matiur Rahman, 25, son of Nurul Hossain, resident of the same area.
Sources from the court said on October 17, during the celebration of the Prabarana Purnima, the neighborhood was busy making lanterns and in other activities. Around 5:30 PM, the 15-year-old victim went to the nearby canal to fetch drinking water and take a bath. Later, her brother found her sitting and crying in a bamboo grove on the other side of the canal. When asked, the teenage girl said two youth forcefully took her to the bamboo grove and raped her there.
Later, the locals caught Matiur Rahman and informed the police. On information, police reached the spot and detained the two youth. Brother of the teenage girl filed a case against the duo in Naikhongcchari police station that night.
They were presented at Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Friday, and Judge Nurul Haque passed the verdict to send them to jail.
