2 illegal brick kilns demolished in Manikganj

A mobile court on Thursday afternoon demolished two brick kilns at Saturia upazila in Manikganj for lack of environmental clearance and setting up kilns on agricultural land.

Md Sadequr Rahman Sabuj, executive magistrate, monitoring and enforcement wing of the Department of Environment, conducted the mobile court in Hajipur village of Baliati Union in Saturia upazilas of the district with the help of the police and the fire service.

The two demolished brick fields are BB Bricks and Khan Bricks. The court also fined Tk 5 lakh the owner of BB Bricks under section 8/1 H for polluting environment and operating without proper documents. During the raid, company commander of RAB-4 Unu Mong Chakma, Deputy Director of Manikganj Environment Department Nur Alam, along police and fire service personnel were present.

Md Sadequr Rahman Sabuj, executive magistrate of the mobile court of the environment department, said  there is clear prohibition in the Brick Making and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act 2013, brick kilns can not be set up on agricultural land.

He said, adding that, more ever these kilns had been operating illegally as they did not secure  any clearance from the environment department and licenses from the deputy commissioner's office.

Deputy Director  of Manikganj Environment Department Nur Alam said that the demolition work of illegal brick kilns in the district will continue.
