2 held with 2,145 grams of gold

Jhenaidah police on Saturday morning arrested two gold smugglers with 2,145 grams of gold ornament. They also seized the motorbike used by the duo at the time, said the police sources.

The arrested were identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 28, son of Makbul Hossain of Faridpur village under Titas upazila of Cumilla and Abdullah Roman, 19, son of Shah Alam of Narayanganj’s Sonargaon area.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Jhenaidah Sadar circle Abul Bashar said they were informed that two gold smugglers with huge quantity of gold ornaments have been marching towards Dhaka on a motorbike. 

They had started journey from Chaudanga in the morning. As per the tip off, a contingent of police set up a check post in front of Bangladesh water development board (WAPDA) on Jhenaidah - Chuadanga highway in the morning.

When the duo arrived at the spot, policemen stopped the bike and managed to nab the two. They seized the gold ornaments from their possession. A case was filed with Jhenaidah Sadar police station in this connection, the ASP said.
