2 get­ life in drug cases

 Two courts in Chapainawabganj on Thursday sentenced two men to life-term imprisonment in two separate drug cases filed in 2016 and 2022 respectively.

 Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Adeeb Ali and Additional Sessions Judge-1 Md. Rabiul Islam gave the verdicts respectively.

The convicted persons were identified as Shanto Ali, 22, son of Ekramul Hoque of Kamlakantapur Biswaspara under Shibganj upazila of the district and Nuhu,

34, son of Ershad Ali of Harishpur Daktar Haji village under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.

The court also fined Shanto of Tk 50,000 and Nuhu of Tk10,000, in default, Shanto has to suffer two years more in jail and Nuhu has to suffer  six-month more in jail.

 According to the prosecution story, in brief, acting on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid in a house of Ekramul Hoque at

Kamlakantapur Biswaspara under Nayalabhanga union of Shibganj upazila in the district on February 26, 2022 and arrested Shanto with 865 grams of heroin.

On the same day, Senior Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of RAB Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Shibganj thana against Shanto.

Later, Investigating Officer of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Abdul Gani submitted charge-sheet to the court against Shanto Ali on June 26, 2022.

After hearing the witnesses, Senior Sessions Judge Md. Adeeb Ali announced the verdict in presence of Shanto Ali.

Meanwhile, police of Chapainawabganj sadar thana conducted a raid in Baghermore area in Islampur Ilishmari village under Chapainawabganj sadar

upazila on April 2, 2016 and arrested Nuhu with 100 grams heroin.

A case was recorded in this connection against Nuhu with Chapainawabganj sadar thana on the same day.

On May 24, 2016, Investigating Officer of the case SI Alamgir Hossain submitted charge-sheet against Nuhu to the court.

After hearing the witnesses and examining other relevant evidences,Additional Sessions Judge-1 Md. Rabiul Islam handed down the punishment to Nuhu, who remained absconding.
