2 fishermen abducted in Sundarbans

Two fishermen were abducted by members of the bandit Zia force while they were fishing at Chayartek area near Shaya river on the Indian border in the depths of western Sundarbans on early Saturday.

At that time, the other 8 fishermen aboard the boat were released by the bandit Zia force. Zia's forces have demanded Tk 7 lakh for their release. The two arrestees are identified as Majid Sana, 45, son of Jabbar Sana of Baro Vetkhali village and Abdullah, 22, son of Akbar Hossain of Parshekhali village in Shyamnagar upazila.

Citing the abducted fishermen, Anis Sheikh and Hossain Sheikh of Parshekhali village said, while fishing in the Chhayartek area of the Sundarbans with the permission of the Kaikhali Forest Office, members of the Zia Force abducted the fishermen at gunpoint. Satkhira Assistant Forest Conservator (ACF) M A Hasan said, "I have heard about the abduction of the fishermen but no one has complained yet”.
