Two children named Faria Akhtar (4) and Riju Akhtar (2) died after drowning in the water of a pond in Raipur upazila. These two incidents took place in Shaistanagar and Mahadevpur villages of Raipur upazila at separate times on Thursday.
According to the police and family sources of the deceased, Faria was playing in the yard of the house in the morning. At that time the family members were busy with other work. Suddenly, not seeing her, everyone started looking for the child. At one point, her frozen body is seen floating in the water of the pond next to the house. Relatives believe that she fell into the pond while playing and drowned. Meanwhile Riju's mother Nehar Begum was busy working in the kitchen. Riju was playing next to her. The house pond is located a little away from the house. After a while, Riju was not seen and the search began. Before that, Riju fell into the pond after crossing the fence yard and drowned. Seeing his cold frozen body floating in the pond, the doctor on duty declared him dead when he was rescued and taken to the hospital.
In this regard, Tanmoy Kumar Pal, a doctor on duty at Raipur Upazila Health Complex, said that two children died before being brought to the hospital. On the other hand, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station Shipon Barua said that the matter was not informed to us. Knowing the news, we will take legal action.
