2 arrested for fishing in Sundarbans canal

Two fishermen have been fined in Mongla for fishing in the Sundarbans canal during the ban. Mongla police arrested them on Sunday afternoon while they were fishing in the Jaymoni canal in the Sundarbans.

A boat and a 200-meter net were seized at that time. The arrested are Mohammad Alamin (24) and Mohammad Dalim (45), residents of Chiknal Tower area. 

Later, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi fined the two fishermen Tk 4,000. The seized nets were later destroyed by burning.

Officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said the Mongla Police launched an operation this month to protect the forest and fishery resources of the Sundarbans.

Bagerhat District Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy inaugurated the operation on July 3.
