Police arrested two Awami League and Jubo League leaders from Tebaria area under Natore sadar upazila on the allegation of extortion on Thursday.
The arrested AL leaders are Nazmul Islam, General Secretary of ward-8 of nature Municipal AL and Saiful Islam, President of Tebaria Union of Jubo League of Natore sadar.
It is learnt, Nazmul Islam and Saiful Islam sat for arbitration over a stolen autorickshaw of Afzal Hossain son of Alimuddin of Paikpara area of Natore sadar upazila. The autorickshaw was recovered from another autorickshaw owner Ashik from nearby village and after the arbitration, AL and Jubo League leaders Nazmul and Saiful held Asik and seized the autorickshaw and demanded Taka 30,000 from Shefa Khatun, mother of Ashik over the mobile phone. Shefa Khatun being poor failed to manage the money and informed the incident of Natore thana police. Later on, police arrested Nazmul and Saiful from Tebaria area and rescued Ashik from there.
Later on, Shefa Khatun filed a case accusing Nazmul and Saiful on the allegation of extortion and owner of the auto Afzal Hossain filed another case with the same thana accusing Ashik in connection with the stealing of his autorickshaw.
Jahangir Alam, Officer-in-charge of Natore thana informed, three persons, have been arrested and sent to jail in two separate cases in connection with the extortion and stealing of the autorickshaw.
