2,766 new Covid-19 cases, 34 deaths in a day

Bangladesh on Friday registered 2,766 fresh cases of coronavirus, 34 deaths and 1,752 recoveries in a day.

A total of 12,856 samples were tested at 86 authorised laboratories across Bangladesh during the 24 hours period till 8am, according to the statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With that, the number of confirmed cases rose to 271,881 with 3,591 deaths and 156,623 recoveries.

Among the latest victims from the pandemic, 28 were male and six female. Two were in their 30s, four in their 40s, six in their 50s and 22 in their 60s. According to the division-wise data, 18 deaths took place in Dhaka division, four in Rajshahi division, four in Sylhet division and rests are in other divisions.

Among the total 3,591 deaths, 1,718 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 827 in Chattogram division, 233 in Rajshahi division, 279 in Khulna division, 139 in Barishal division, 170 in Sylhet division, 145 in Rangpur division and 80 in Mymensingh division, according to the press release. 

Bangladesh first confirmed the disease on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11.So far, 13,28,757 samples have been tested since January. Of them, 20.46 percent were tested positive for the virus. Of the total patients, 57.61 percent recovered, while 1.32 percent died.
