State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruq has said the government will take projects for excavation of 19 rivers in haor regions to ensure normal flow of water.
He said this while talking to journalists during his visit to Tuphankhali Crop Protection Embankment at Derai Upzila in Sunamganj on Wednesday.
Zahid Faruq said, "People of haor region, including the people of Sunamganj, face repeated disaster. People of the district faced worst floods in 2022. Now it is urgent to take river excavation projects for protecting the people of haor region from natural disaster, especially flood.”
He also said. "Haor region in the country is familiar with its distinct and diversified geographical character... so it is absolutely difficult to build any infrastructure like embankment to prevent flash flood and other natural disasters."
