19 fishermen missing in Bay for 21 days

19 fishermen of Kamalnagar and Ramgati Upazilas under Luxmipur remained missing in the sea for the last 21-day. 

Trawler Owners' Association and owners of the trawlers are searching for those missing fishermen in the sea using four trawlers for last one week. Those fishermen went to the sea for fishing on November-15 last but did not return yet. Among the missing fishermen, 12 belonged to Kamlanagar Upazila and seven belonged to Ramgati upazila. 

Owner of the trawler has filed a general diary with Cox's Bazaar sadar model police station in this connection mon December-3.

Meanwhile, by getting no news of the missing persons, family members of those missing fishermen have now become crazy in deep shock of losing their near and dear ones.

It is learnt, boatman Monjur went in the South Bay of Bengal with 18 fishermen on the trawler MV Rana to catch is on November-15. That day, the fishermen and the boatman talked with the owner of the trawler and their relatives over mobile phones but the next day they went beyond the network and failed to contact with anyone over the phones. They were supposed to return from the sea within eight to ten days after catching fish but they did not return yet, informed the owner of the trawler. Even, no trace of all 19 fishermen in the sea could be found so far. Among the missing fishermen, there are Monjur Majhi of Banglabazar area under Ramgati upazila, Moktar, Saddam Hossain, Jasim Uddin, Zafar, Tajul Islam, Shah Alam and Jahangir of Charfalkon area under Kamalnagar upazila. 

Names and identities of other fishermen could not be confirmed. 

Abdul Khaleque father of Tajul Islam of Charfalkon area under Kamalnagar upazila at an emotion chalked voice said, Tajul Islam is the only earning member of the family and now the family members are crazy by not getting any trace of Tajul.   

Murad Hossain son of missing Jahangir of the same area informed, he talked with his father on November-15 over the mobile phone but afterwards he tried several times to talk to him but failed to contact him.

Nazir Hossain Company, owner of the trawler informed, he purchased the trawler, MV Rana, at a cost of Taka One crore 10 lakh. 19 fishermen went to the sea to catch fish on the trawler. It is not possible to make a contact with them after the fishermen went to the deep sea to catch fish outside the mobile network. he added, four trawlers are being sent to the deep sea daily in search of the missing trawler but no trace of the trawler with the fishermen has so far been found. 

Mostaque Ahmed, Organising Secretary of Cox's Bazaar Boat Owners Association informed, he thinks the fishermen with the trawler might enter into the water territory of India, Myanmar or Sree Lanka by losing the direction of navigation or by breaking the engine. The trawler might also be sunk by being hit by a large ship. He added, they were trying to collect information about the missing fishermen from other fishermen returning from the sea. The incident has also been informed to Bangladesh Coast Guard, Navy and the local police.
