17 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rajshahi

Seventeen more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in seven districts of the division on Tuesday, taking the caseload to 99,777 since the pandemic began in March last year.

However, the new positive cases are showing a rising trend compared to the previous day's figure of 13, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.  Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 96,184 in the division after 18 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.

The death toll reached 1,688, including 686 in Bogura, 326 in Rajshahi with 208 in its city and 175 in Natore as one new fatality was reported during the past 24 hours, Dr Talukder added.

Besides, all the positive cases of Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 23,186 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional quarantine. Of them, 19,916 have been released.

Meanwhile, 70 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 18 others were released from isolation during the same time.

Of the 17 new cases, seven were detected in Rajshahi city, followed by three in Bogura, two each in Sirajganj and Pabna and one each in Naogaon, Natore and Joypurhat districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 28,360 in Rajshahi including 22,915 in its city, 5,687 in Chapainawabganj, 6,460 in Naogaon, 8,436 in Natore, 4,750 in Joypurhat, 21,805 in Bogura, 11,438 in Sirajganj and 12,841 in Pabna.  A total of 1,15,154 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus.

Of them, 1, 14,123 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
