A number of 17 people died of Covid-19 and 915 more people have tested positive for the deadly virus in the last 24-hour till Wednesday in Chattogram. The infection rate is 32.77 percent.
According to the Civil Surgeon's Office, 2792 samples were tested in 24 hours. Among the newly 915 victims, 614 are in different areas of the city and 264 are in different upazilas.
Among the upazilas, the highest number of infections is in Raozan upazila, 47 people. Besides, 44 people were found infected with corona virus in Boalkhali upazila, 38 in Patia upazila and 32 in Fatikchhari upazila.
With this, the total number of corona patients in Chittagong has increased to 78, 436. Of these, 58,964 are from the city and the remaining 19,472 are from different upazilas. Corona claimed the lives of 932 infected patients.
Contacted, Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram, told Bangladesh Post that infections will increase if hygiene and social distance are not followed. Everyone has to abide by the rules and regulations. There is no alternative.
The first corona patient was identified in Chattogram on 3 April 2020. Then the first person died of corona on 9 April last year.
