16 HSC candidates arrested over quota movement get bail

A Chattogram court on Friday granted bail to 16 HSC candidates arrested on charge of violence and vandalism in different police stations of Chattogram city and district during the recent quota reform movement.

Chattogram Second Metropolitan Magistrate Md Oli Ullah and Chief Judicial Magistrate Kazi Muhammad Shahidul Islam granted them bail in separate court orders.

The 16 students who have been allowed bail are Rezaul Azim, Manirul Islam Atik, Abdullah Mohammad Tahid, Abdul Jabbar, Israful Akter, Moin Uddin, Abdullah Bin Ayub, Aziz Ullah, Rashedul Islam, Rabiul Hasnat Sourav, Ajay Chowdhury, Rakibul Alam Asif, Taher Shah Fahim, Faysal Mahmud Fahim, Aziz Ullah and Abu Raihan.

District Public Prosecutor Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury said three students were arrested from Banshkhali, Raozan and Lohagora Upazila of Chattogram on charge of vandalism centering the quota reform movement. The court ordered the bail of three HSC candidates on a bond of Tk 2,000 after hearing special appeal. 

Earlier on August 1, the Home Ministry in a press release said that the state would provide legal assistance to any student who is HSC candidate and against whom there is no serious charge.
