‘15th August massacre is tainted, odious episode of history’

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Sunday said the  massacre of August 15 in 1975 is a ‘tainted and odious’ episode in the history of Bangalee nation.

“The gruesome murder of Bangabandhu and most of his family members at night on August 15 in 1975 is a scandalous and disgraceful chapter in the history of the nation,” he said as the chief guest while addressing  a virtual discussion marking 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the capital.    

UCEP Bangladesh, a NGO serving over 50,000 Children and youth, especially girls and women, from underprivileged communities, organized the function with UCEP Bangladesh Chairperson Parvin Mahmud was in the chair.     

 Recalling Bangabandhu’s contribution in establishing UCEP, Palak said, “Bangabandhu had ensured the expertise and  development of the underprivileged people of the country through Lindsay Allen Chaney, an European social worker, who established the UCEP project with  a British relief programme.”

UCEP Bangladesh Executive Director M Abul Karim gave introductory speech at the function while Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau KM Tariqul Islam attended the online function as the special guest.

UCEP Bangladesh Vice Chairperson Ujma Chowdhury, members A Matin Chowdhury, Jitendra Lal Bhowmik and Mobasher Hossain, among others, joined the programme.

     “UCEP Bangladesh is working for establishing digital Bangladesh introduced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”, said the NGO Affairs DG while appreciating the role of the UCEP Bangladesh.     

UCEP Bangladesh is working relentlessly for the development of underprivileged children of the country, said Parvin Mahmud, adding that Bangabandhu’s killers could not destroy the dream of a Bangladesh free from discrimination and poverty.
