158th anniversary of railway in Bangladesh celebrated

Railway officials celebrated the 158th anniversary of the railway in Bangladesh.

Rail transport in Bangladesh (the then, India) began on November 15, 1862, when 53.11 km of 5 ft 6 in (broad gauge) line was opened between Darshana in Chuadanga District and Jogotee in Kushtia District.

Since then, railway went through several phases and finally become Bangladesh Railway on November 15, 1971.

To mark the day, the Chattogram railway station areas were decorated with various banners and festoons.

Railway officials welcomed the passengers, from Subarna Express, Vijay Express, Chattala Express and Paharika Express, with flowers and gifted chocolates to children.

Sardar Shahadat Ali, general manager (GM) of Eastern Railway the celebrated the day in a small scale due to coronavirus pendamic.

He urged passengers and locals to play a role in stopping the throwing of stones to moving trains to avoid causality.
