1550 Yaba pills recovered from stomach during autopsy


1550 pieces of Yaba drug was recovered from the stomach during the autopsy of a drug peddler on Monday noon at the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital who died after being arrested by police. That Yaba kept in 31 sachets were swallowed by drug peddler Abdus Shakur (37). 

It is learnt, Abdus Shukur son of Mukter Ahmed was a resident of Bazarpara area under Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district. On Wednesday (23 Sept.) DB police arrested three drug peddlers including Shukur from Pabna Hospital road area. Shukur died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 11-00 pm on Sunday. Yaba in 31 sachets were recovered from inside his stomach during the autopsy. 

Nasim Ahmed, Officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police station informed, Nasim carried Yaba in his stomach from Teknarf  to sell those in Pabna. Police arrested Shukur with three-drug peddlers of Pabna and recovered 150 pieces of Yaba from their possession. During interrogation, they informed, Yaba in sachets have been kept inside the stomach of Shukur. Shukur was then admitted to Pabna Sadar Hospital and after conducting Ultrasonogram and X-Ray, the doctors at the hospital became sure of possessing Yaba inside the stomach of Shukur. There having no device to take out those Yaba from the stomach, doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and accordingly, he was admitted to ward-5 of RMCH where he was under treatment under police custody. Shukur died during treatment there on Sunday night. 

Dr. Naoshad Ali, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College informed, in presence of a Magistrate, the autopsy of Shukur was conducted. 31 sachets containing Yaba drug were recovered from the stomach of Shukur. Out of these, 16 sachets were intact while 15 sachets got cracked and the Yaba inside those packets started to melt that is why those could not be counted properly. However, each sachet containing 50 pieces of the drug, the total number of recovered Yaba was estimated to 1,550 in 31 sachets.  Death of Shukur was caused due to the melting of so many numbers of Yaba inside his stomach, he informed. 

Shahadat Hossain Khan, Officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police station informed, he was aware of the incident. The Yaba recovered during autopsy should be shown as seized from Pabna Sadar police station since a case under the Drug Control Act has been filed against four drug peddlers including Shukur in Pabna Sadar Police station.
