15 tobacco companies sued in e-court

An anti-tobacco platform named Padma Samajkalyan Sangstha submitted allegation with the E-Court in Jhenaidah against 15 tobacco companies as the companies allegedly violating the tobacco control law. 

Habibur Rahman, executive director of Padma Samajkalyan Sangstha, said the tobacco industries have been ignoring the government instructions not to display any signboard, banner, placard, leaflet or any other publicity materials. Tey are attracting the people 

installing lucrative showcases free of cost attaching  empty packets of the cigarettes. Further, the field staff of the companies have been using T-shirt to identify themselves as sales department workers public. They have also showing the price of the cigarette stick with other essential products like salt etc.

Finding no other alternative, the anti tobacco organisation head had submitted allegation against 15 cigarette marketing companies working in Jhenaidah town.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Jhenaidah Saroj Kumar Nath said the district administration has been conducting drives against the publicity and other banned activities of the tobacco companies to show respect to government laws.
