15 new ICU ventilators to be installed at CMC Hospital

Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital has added 15 new ventilators including ICU department.  New ventilators allocated from the central pharmacy were added on Sunday and Monday.  As a result, it is possible to keep the 20 IUCU beds of the hospital fully operational from now on.

Although the installation of 15 new ventilators has been completed, the ancillary work needs one more day to be completed. 15 new ventilators will be fully operational 24 hours a day.  Such information has been confirmed by Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital Director Brigadier General Md. Shamim Ahsan.

He said, ‘CMSD has recently allocated 15 new ventilators for CMC Hospital.  These ventilators arrived at the hospital last week. The people of the contractor company came and started the work of setting it up on Monday.  Hopefully these ventilators will be fully operational in a few days.  As a result, 20 new beds have been added to the ICU ward. '

According to CMC sources, the government has been providing services to the patients with only ten-bed ICU in this government level treasury level hospital for a long time.  A few years ago it was converted into a 12-bed ICU ward.  However, due to the demand of patients during last year's Covid, 8 more ICU beds were added and it was increased to 20 beds.  At present, the hospital provides 20-bed ICU services, but recently due to a mechanical defect in this artificial respirator (ventilator), doctors have to suffer in providing services to patients in all the beds.  Later, when a letter was sent asking for about 30 new ventilators for the hospital, only 15 ventilators were allotted.  Of these, 13 are for ICU departments, the remaining two are for hospital cardiology and one for one-stop emergency care.
