A 15-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair has started in Chattogram under the theme "Planting trees and building a healthy generation country".  The tree fair has 70 stalls of various types.

Tree fair was inaugurated at CRB of Chattogram city on Monday.

Chattogram Division Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam inaugurated the tree fair as the chief guest.

Chattogram North Divisional Forest Officer SM Kaichar gave a welcome address on the occasion. Chattogram Region Forest Conservator Bipul Krishna Das presided over the ceremony. Chattogram Range DIG Nure Alam Mina, CMP Additional Commissioner MA Masud, Bangladesh Railway's General Manager (East) Md Jahangir Hossain, gyyy Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Chattogram Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, Bangladesh Muktijodha Sangsad of Chattogram Metropolitan Unit Commander Freedom Fighter. Mozaffar Ahmed were the special guests.

Speakers in the event said that the tree fair is one of the means of exhibition, sale and purchase of various species of saplings and technology transfer.  It creates public awareness about the need for tree planting, conservation and economic and environmental development through its proper use.  In the cities and ports and even in the remote rural areas, various bazaars are selling tree seedlings along with various products.  1 sapling has now become a necessary item along with daily necessities from haat bazaar.  The contribution of the tree fair by the forest department is undeniable.

A dividend check of around Tk 1 crore has been distributed to 2 beneficiaries of social forestry under the Forest Department in the last one year.  In addition to protecting the balance of the elderly country's environment, it is playing a strong role in alleviating poverty at the individual level.  The role of forestry in environmental development is undeniable.  Our tree resources are unmatched compared to the needs of populous Bangladesh.  In the situation, it is necessary to increase the tree resources in Chattogram's CRB. We hope that this fair will also arouse a wide response among the people in the creation and maintenance of forest resources.  In order that the people can collect tree seedlings in an easy way, apart from Chattogram city, there is an opportunity to get tree seedlings at the government price in forest department nurseries in different upazilas.

Since the introduction of partnership forestry in Chattogram, the spontaneous participation of the people in the protection of forest resources has been noticed.
