14 gold bars robbed in Ctg, 5 arrested

Police have arrested five people in connection with the robbery of 14 gold bars from a gold dealer in Hazari Goli, Chattogram city.  

The arrested are Jayant Banik, Prabir Banik, Abdur Rauf, Md Mainuddin Hasan Tushar, Shraboni Banik.  Two brothers, artisans by profession, formed the circle of robbing gold bars.

 On Tuesday night, raids were conducted at various places in Brahmanbaria and Chattogram city and they were arrested.

 Kotwali Police Station Deputy Inspector (SI) Mominul Hasan said that six gold bars and bars worth Tk 630,000 were recovered from the arrested.  

On August 6, Kanak Dhar, the manager of the Banlata Cutting Center in Hazari Street, took a rickshaw with 14 gold bars in a cloth shopping bag to go to Goribullah Shah Mazar area.

 When the rickshaw carrying him came to the mouth of Hazari Goli, the rickshaw was stopped and the gold bars were snatched away from him, showing fear.  In this incident, Kanak Dhar filed a case in Kotwali police station as a plaintiff.

 While investigating, the police identified the culprits by looking at the CCTV camera of the scene.  Later, the arrested accused admitted that they robbed on the orders of Jayant Banik and Prabir Banik.  When a merchant's gold bar is being taken to where the news is to the two brothers.  

They stay away during the robbery.  After the incident they took away the looted gold bars.  Sometimes they sell all the bars somewhere.  Sometimes they contact the owner and take the money and return the bars
