A festive atmosphere enveloped Chitalmari upazila as 13 nomination papers were sold for five positions in the Chitalmari Sadar Bazar Business Management Committee (CSBBMC) election, the first such election in 17 years.
Nomination papers were sold from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, amid significant enthusiasm from candidates and their supporters.
Sheikh Shahadat Hossain Bulu, the Chief Election Commissioner of the market committee, confirmed that elections will be held for five positions. According to the schedule, nomination papers were submitted on November 12, verification will occur on November 15, withdrawal of nominations and symbol allocation will take place on November 16, and voting is scheduled for November 28.
Key candidates who purchased nomination papers include: for President: Md. Shahar Ali Gazi, Md. Shoaib Hossain Gazi, and Md. Maniruzzaman Gazi, for General Secretary: Sheikh Asaduzzaman, Md. Raju Ahmed Munshi, and Jainul Parvez Suman.
The last election for this committee was held in December 2008. Following that election, a convening committee was formed with Md. Shoaib Hossain Gazi as Convener and Md. Maniruzzaman as Member Secretary after the change of government in August 2024.
