Amid fears of landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, the local administration has opened 124 shelters in Khagrachhari district to facilitate the relocation of hill area residents and ensure their safety.
So far, 55 people have taken refuge in the shelters, according to officials.
The district administration is providing food to those who have sought shelter.
Nazmun Ara Sultana, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department and Administrator of Khagrachhari Municipality, said the local administration is fully prepared to tackle potential landslides and flooding.
“In some areas, landslides have already occurred, and the debris has been cleared. Residents in high-risk zones have been urged to move to safer locations,” she added.
