Established more than 120 years ago in 1902, Rajshahi Sadar Hospital is getting a facelift for its reoperation with its full capacity. Already the wards and rooms of the hospital have been repaired and renovated, Air-conditioners have been set up and all the wards have been connected with a central Oxygen supply system.

According to sources, after the establishment of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the utility of Rajshahi Sadar Hospital decreased gradually. By 2004, all the units of the hospital were closed except the Dental unit. Since then, the ground floor of the hospital was being used as the Outdoor of the Dental unit while the first floor was being used as the hostel of students and teachers of RMCH.

The significance of Rajshahi Sadar Hospital was felt greatly once again during the spread of Coronavirus throughout the country. RMCH Corona units find it difficult to tackle with a huge number of Corona Delta variety patients from June last year. Many general wards of the hospital were turned to Corona units but the number of Corona patients was continually rising. Under such a situation, the concerned Ministry allocated funds to resume operation of Sadar Hospital once again.

Under the initiative of Rajshahi Sadar Cons MP Fazley Hossain Badsha, the repair and renovation of the hospital restarted.  Rajshahi Public Works Deptt-2 finished the renovation works of the hospital. Now, the hospital is waiting for the inauguration.

Dr Nasohad Ali, Principal of RMCH informed that the works for restarting the hospital have nearly finished but it has still not been inaugurated.  The first floor of the hospital will be turned to the Corona unit while the ground floor will be used as the Outdoor of the Dental Unit'.

Mustafizur Rahman, XEN of PWD-2, Rajshahi, informed, the renovation works of the hospital have been completed at a cost of Tk 25 million( two and a half crore) while Tk 35 million more were spent for setting up Oxygen supply lines of the hospital. He hoped to handover the hospital to the concerned authorities by next month (February).

Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH informed, it is possible to set up 250 more beds on the first floor of Rajshahi Sadar Hospital. But, for Corona patients, 150 beds will be set up at present on the first floor. Also a 15-bed ICU will also be set up there. He mentioned, the Corona is increasing once again that is why the operation of the hospital should be resumed as soon as possible.

Dr Abu Sayed Md Faruque, Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi and Superintendent of Sadar Hospital informed, the resumption of the full fledged operation of the hospital requires necessary man-power, medical equipment, beds and other related materials. Steps should be taken to resume the operation of the hospital as soon as possible, he added.
