12,000 illegal gas lines disconnected

Sonargaon regional sales and distribution office of Titas gas conducted a drive against illegal domestic gas connection in Bandar upazila area, disconnected around twelve thousand illegal gas connections and uprooted all underground service pipe lines.

Deputy General Manager Mohammad Suruj Alam said that they conducted a drive headed by executive magistrate Fatema Tuz Zohra and the members of law enforcers on Wednes­day and Thursday consecutively.

DGM Suruj added that this is the third drive of ours in the same area but we cannot capable remove all the illegal gas connections because when we left the place after disconnecting a vested quarter of people would have given illegal connections again.

The Titas gas team ran the operation to eliminate illegal gas connections at Gokuldaser Bagh, Ispahani Bazaar and Dhamgor area. The drive operated team recovered huge Titas gas used pipe, riser and other equipment from around 9 kilometers area.

Expressing a helpless condition, DGM told the media that we came to the spot with all efforts and evicted illegal connections but within a few days the previous scenery appeared again to us. 

He added that we have conducted a drive in these areas in the month of March but after a month we have to come to the same spot.

It is mentioned that the expert of Titas gas assumed that almost two lakh illegal gas connections have been running in the district that have consumed gas taking connections in the last nine years just after being banned by the government in 2013.
