12,000 farmers to get jute seeds in Narail

A total of 12,000 small and marginal farmers in three upazilas of the Narail district will get high quality jute seeds free of cost as agriculture incentive under the incentive and rehabilitation programme for the cultivation of jute in the current season.

Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of the District Nipu Majumder said a farmer will get one kg of seed of BJRI Tosha-8 variety free of cost for planting on one bigha of land to increase golden fiber jute plantation in the district.

According to the DAE sources, 4, 000 farmers in Narail Sadar upazila, 5,500 in Lohagora upazila and 2, 500 in Kalia upazila will be given incentive jute seeds under the agricultural incentive program free of cost very soon.

Mohammad Fariduzzaman, Acting Deputy Director of DAE told BSS that free seeds are being provided to small and marginal farmers under the government initiative to increase jute cultivation. The current agriculture-friendly government provides seeds and fertilizers as incentives to encourage farmers to cultivate all types of crops. He said that the field level agricultural officers will provide all kinds of cooperation to the farmers to successfully complete the cultivation of golden fiber jute.
