118 nominations in 16 Ctg constituencies found valid

A total of 148 nomination papers were submitted in 16 constituencies of Chattogram.  Of them,74 were declared valid and 14 rejected in 2 days at the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office.  

On the other hand, 44 nomination papers were found valid and 16 were rejected in the Divisional Commissioner's office. The nomination papers of 12 aspirants were rejected on the second day of nomination papers scrutinizationin Chattogram.  Out of the 12 nominations who were disqualified, 7 are independent candidates.

Thirty nominations including 23 independent candidates have been rejected and 118 candidates have been declared valid in 16 constituencies of Chattogram.  However, the rejected candidates can appeal, said the returning officer.

From Monday morning, the work of nomination scrutinisationstarted at the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office and District Administration Office for the second day.

Nomination declared invalid - One in Mirsaraiconstituency, three in Fatikchhari, two in Sandwip, four in Sitakunda, two in Hathazari, one in Raojan, five in Boalkhali, four in Doublemooring and one in Bandar-Patenga, three in Patia, two in Satkania and two in Banshkhali.

The nomination scrutinisationof Chattogram 7, 12, 14, 15 and 16 constituencies held in the district administration office in the morning confirmed the candidature of all seven candidates of Chattogram-7 (Rangunia) constituencies.

The nominations of three candidates in Chattogram-12 (Patiya) seat were cancelled.  Among them, the nominations of independent candidates Elias Mia and Golam Kibria Chowdhury were rejected due to a discrepancy in the information of one percent of the voters.  Bangladesh Islami Front candidate MA Matin's nomination was rejected due to pending electricity bill.

The work of selecting nominations for Chattogram-9 and 10 constituencies started in the Divisional Commissioner's office. In Chattogram-9 (Kotwali-Bakolia) constituency, the candidatures of all nine candidates have been found valid.  However, the returning officer rejected the nomination papers of Farid Mahmud, the independent candidate and the former joint convener of the city Jubo League in the Chattogram-10 constituency.  

As an independent candidate, one percent voters’ name and signature must be submitted along with the nomination paper. Nominations of Osman Goni and Faisal Amin and BNF's Manjurul Islam were also rejected.

The election commission declared invalid the nomination of two independent candidates -- MA Motaleb and AMM Minhazur Rahman in Chattogram-15 (Satkania-Lohagara) constituency.

Jatiya Party candidate for Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency, Mahmudul Islam, got his nomination rejected due to allegations of debt collection.  The returning officer rejected the nomination of NAP candidate Ashish Kumar Sen on the same complaint.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Election Returning Officer AbulBasar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman told reporters, "In the last two days, the nominations of the candidates of 16 districts of Chattogram have been verified and selected.  The nomination of 88 people has been selected in the Deputy Commissioner’s office.  In two days, the nominations of 14 people have been rejected.  The remaining 74 nominations have been declared valid.

The nominations were rejected due to discrepancies in the list of electoral supporters of individual candidates.  Apart from this, many of the candidates of the political parties are missing various papers including tax returns, electricity bills.  Those whose nominations have been rejected can appeal to the Election Commission.  This appeal can be made from 5-9 December.
