11 candidates in Gopalganj submit mayor nominations

Elections for Gopalganj and Muksudpur municipalities will be held on June 15. Following this, a total of 11 candidates for the post of Mayor in Gopalganj Municipality and a total of 8 candidates for the post of Mayor in Muksedpur Municipal Corporation have submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer's Office. However, although the Muksudpur municipal election is a party (boat) symbol, the Awami League's nomination in the Gopalganj municipal election is being made open (independent).

The nominees for the post of Mayor of Gopalganj (Independent) are: SM Nazrul Islam (new), GM Sahab Uddin Azam, Sheikh Rakib Hossain, Kazi Liaquat Ali, Dilip Kumar Saha (Dipu), Mohammad Abul Fattah (Saju), Mrinal. Kanti Roy Chowdhury (Papa), M Badrul Alam (Badr) Mohammad Rezaul Haque Sikder (Raju), Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahman (Liton). Also Islamic Movement Bangladesh nominated candidate Md. Didarul Islam.

Note that Gopalganj municipality has been expanded to 15 wards instead of 9 wards. In the reserved ward, 21 candidates for the post of councilor and 6 candidates for the post of general councilor have submitted their nomination papers to the office of the Returning Officer.

Meanwhile, Muksudpur Upazila Awami League President and Municipal Mayor Alhaj Adv. The Nomination Board of Bangladesh Awami League has given permission to Atiqur Rahman Mia to re-elect Nauka Pratik as mayor. Besides, 10 candidates for reserved councilor and 34 candidates for general councilor have submitted their nomination papers to Returning Officer's Office, Faridpur Senior District Election Officer and Returning Officer Mohammad Rahman.

In an interview given this morning, Gopalganj District Awami League Office Secretary Ilias Haque congratulated Gopalganj District Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and all members of the Nomination Board, including Alhaj Dr Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, a re-elected MP from Gopalganj-2 constituency. He also hoped that the Gopalganj and Muksudpur municipal elections would be held in a free, fair and peaceful environment.
