The government plans to impose a 10 percent supplementary duty on issuance or renewal of all kinds of vehicles registration, route permit, fitness certificates and ownership certificates. The move aims to alleviate traffic congestion and develop the public sector transport system, according to Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The duty, however, will not apply to passenger buses, trucks, lorries, three-wheelers, ambulances and school buses. Kamal also plans to raise the supplementary duty on luxury transport services such as chartered aircraft and helicopters to 25 percent from the existing 20 percent.
