About one thousand and 31 teachers from 291 primary schools across the country will heave a sigh of relief as they will be brought under the monthly payment order (MPO) process. Although these 291 schools were nationalized one year ago, the nationalization of teachers of these educational institutions faced a thaw due to various complexities. Now, a notification will be issued next week by naming the teachers of these schools, sources at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education said.

About the nationalisation of teachers, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Md Badrul Hasan Babul told The Bangladesh Post, “We have already completed all the procedures. A notification will be issued next week. The teachers will come under nationalisation process after the issuance of notification.”

He also said, “Although, the about 500 schools were brought under nationalization process in third phase, some 1,031 teaches could not be brought under nationalization process due to lack of necessary documents. Recently, the final approval has been given at the cabinet meeting in this regard.” As per the directive of the Prime Minister, more than 26,000 primary schools were nationalized across the country during the last four years. These institutions and teachers have been nationalized in three phases. In the third phase, about 549 primary schools were nationalized across the country.

However, the government could not give approval of monthly payment order (MPO) of teachers from 291 schools due to various complexities. According to sources at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, a task force meeting was held on July 23 last to nationalize primary teachers in the third phase. At the meeting, the nationalization activities of 1,031 teachers working in 291 schools were halted.

Out of 1,031 teachers in the list, there are 247 teachers in Dhaka Division, 432 teachers in Rangpur Division, 74 teachers in Rajshahi Division, 68 in Chattagram Division, 117 in Barisal Division, 27 in Sylhet Division and 56 teachers in Khulna Division. However, if any teacher’s government service age expires or retirement date expires within the day of the notification, the teacher will be deprived of all government benefits, including pension.
