1000 palm saplings being planted at Jibannagar village

A campaign for planting 1000 palm saplings was inaugurated in Manoharpur village of Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Saturday morning on the occasion of the Mujib Barsho.

The initiatives was taken to make people aware about the benefits of palm trees, to prevent environmental disasters, natural calamities, lightning, road erosion and restore the balance of the environment.

The programme was organised by a local voluntary organisation Tarun Sangha by planting palm saplings on both sides of Jibannagar road from Manoharpur bus stand.

Chairman of Jibannagar Upazila Parishad Haji Hafizur Rahman officially inaugurated the programme by planting palm saplings at Manoharpur bus stand. 

Welcoming the initiative, speakers said that palm trees are environment friendly as well as prevent soil erosion, especially the erosion of roadside soil 

during monsoon. The initiative taken considering lightning threats, deserves appreciation. There is no alternative to planting trees to save the environment. Everyone has to come forward to plant trees at the institutional level as well as at the individual level, they added.

Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Munim Lincoln, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Abdul Salam Isha, Women Vice Chairman Ayesha Sultana Lucky, Jivannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam and others were present at the time.
