Women from various walks of life formed a human chain demanding to reserve 100 seats in the National Parliamentary Elections aiming at the empowerment of women at the Zero Point of Shaheb Bazar from 10-00 AM to 11-30 AM on Wednesday.

Speakers at the human chain demanded to increase the reserved seats for women to 100 at the upcoming National Parliamentary Elections. They said, though it is told about the equal rights of females and males, it is not reflected at the National Parliament. They added, though there are 50 reserved seats for women in the Parliament, it is meagre in number in comparison to the male seats. They demanded to increase the number to at least 100.

Speakers further mentioned that various political parties also kept the women stymied and cornered in case of party posts and nominations. The parties should abandon such a mentality and the women should be given equal importance in any party nomination. Specially, during the present age, it is unlikely that the women should lag behind.  They said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for women empowerment. Women are holding many important state responsibilities that is why they should not be kept behind at the National Parliament. From the next Parliament elections, at least 100 seats should be kept reserved for women.

Presided over by  Morzina Parvin, President of Rajshahi district Women Awami League and President of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha of Rajshahi, the human chain was addressed, among others, by  Joint Secretary of BFUJ Rashed Ripon, President of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kalpona Roy, Mohila AL leaders Iffat Ara Kamal, Nur Jahann Sarker, Lawyer Dil Setara Chuni while Trainer of Rajshahi district Mohila Sangstha Sabia Sultana conducted the programme.
